Summary
Full name: Edward Parker | Age: 17-18 | Birthday: January 3rd, 1930
It is worth noting that only the most arrogant people call Twigs by his real name. Not even the teachers refer to him as Edward.
A reserved, mostly shy student. He has a bad overall relationship with his peers because he doesn't talk much -- although he'd certainly like to if he just knew the right words to say. He’s generally the most harmless kid out of all of them. He’s the most sympathetic as well.
Twigs, for the most part, doesn’t necessarily mind being kept to himself a lot of the time. In fact, when he first transferred to Winsborough Academy in 1945 he enjoyed the way he was allowed to work in the library in peace and quiet without anyone bothering him.
That is, however, until he started seeing the other boys hang out in the gymnasium or during dinner and he felt a sense of longing for the friendships they all had for each other. Twigs did have a roommate, but he was a bit snotty and too “out of Twigs’ league.” It wasn’t really until late 1946 that he would come to know Richard, as the dorms got shifted in the middle of the semester to accommodate returning students.
Twigs likes to read a lot, but he really, truly, enjoys painting the most. He’d love to spend every day painting scenes from behind his dormitory window. But he’s been committed to being at the top of his class, and to be a doctor, or something, so he decides to spend most of his time studying or doing homework.
It is not often that Twigs talks about his family. He doesn’t think it is important. He has an aunt that he talks about the most, though. He loves his aunt.
Because of his inability to communicate his feelings properly, he sometimes comes off as uncaring or standoffish. It is completely unintentional, of course. The only one who really understands Twigs, most of the time anyway, is his best friend Rich.
For the most part Twigs struggles with his friendships and trying to stand up for himself in an environment that is full of pricks that couldn’t care less about him. Twigs would often be belittled or picked on before he was friends with Richard (and even when they became friends, if Twigs wasn’t with Richard he would get made fun of). As much as Twigs appreciated Richard acting as a sort of shield, he wishes he could just exist without people being assholes.
Overall, Twigs is a character with struggles just like anyone else. He wants what he can’t have, and must decide what is worth sacrificing to get what he wants.
Fun Facts
* Twigs loves to watch the birds. He likes to catalogue which ones he sees, too. He especially likes to draw whichever ones stick around long enough.
* He loves teaching Richard how to do trigonometry. What he hates is trying to get the other to learn French. Richard is absolutely awful at French, or any language. Apparently he almost flunked Latin one year. Twigs thinks he is a lost cause.
* Twigs likes listening to music a lot, especially when working. Radios are forbidden in Winsborough.. but who's to say they don't have access at all?
* When Twigs has a crush on someone, you can't see it directly in his face. His cheeks don't get nearly as red as his ears do.
* Twigs is the worst at eye contact. He absolutely hates making eye contact. Even with Richard.
