Summary
Full name: Nathan Thacker | Age: 18 | Birthday: December 15th, 1929
Always so, so busy. He likes to keep himself occupied with school work, extracurriculars like debate club or chess, or playing the trumpet. When he's around he's seen to be irritable, out of exhaustion, but he genuinely tries to be nice. On occasion.
He tries to keep himself as reserved as possible as he finds many people to easily annoy him. Unlike Irving, who actively goes out of his way to belittle others for being a disturbance, Nathan usually keeps the mean comments to himself. Unless it's Dewey. He likes to pick on Dewey (The good news is that Dewey knows he doesn’t mean it).
Nathan likes to play the trumpet because of his late mother. His mother always used to encourage him to play whatever instruments he loved the most, and Nathan liked the trumpet. Nathan would love to carry his talent into his future.
Speaking of his mother, she was essentially the catalyst for Nathan’s rough childhood. Nathan’s mother passed away when he was twelve, and since that point struggled to have a relationship with his father and seeked familial comfort in his older sisters. Nathan likes his older sisters. His older sisters provided him with advice that he definitely needed, though it was hard when they moved away. Nathan being in Winsborough Academy more than he is at home definitely did it for his rocky relationship with his family.
Friendship is quite hard for Nathan. He's not one for friendliness, but one person who he's felt some bond with, at least, is Dewey. They play card games at ungodly hours in the morning. They smoke. Occasionally. Definitely not often. Usually when Nathan is seen hanging out with people, Dewey’s there too, because Dewey understands him.
Nathan does have a solid friendship with Twigs and Richard, as they are part of his friend group too. He likes Twigs because of his passion for the arts. He likes Richard because Richard is friends with Dewey. And maybe also because he’s, admittedly, really funny. Nathan likes Twigs a little more though because Twigs can control his volume better than Dewey and Rich.
Nathan struggles a lot with his trauma, and wants to overcome that, but doesn’t really know how. What he can do is find comfort in his friendships, and that is exactly what he does, despite the metaphorical brick wall he built between people. His friendships don’t come without struggle, but once he learns to just be himself, he will be okay.
